About School of Computer Science
The School of Computer Science is one of the eight schools of studies located at the headquarters of the university. The School of Computer Science came into existence in June 1990. The school developed and launched its first computer programme namely "Computer Basics" in 1992. In those times, involving and sharing computational resources of private organisations and individuals was a novel idea for the university. The enrollment to computer programmes and the number of study centers kept on increasing since 1992.
The YCMOU computer study centre is located virtually in every taluka place. During the initial years, the school designed and developed in-house study material including work books. To keep pace with rapid developments in computer hardware and software, the school went in for adoption of text books from the open market. To support the Govt. IT policy, the school launched a short-term programme for the training of Govt. employees. The school imparted IT training to more than 55,000 employees. Besides, under the scheme of “Samaj Kalyan”, about 150 students of the backward class are given computer training every year. The computer programmes for school students were also designed and successfully implemented. Once properly established, the certificate programmes at the school level were transferred to the school of continuing education for running them thereafter.
The school has taken the initiative to provide education to its learners through Internet and CD ROMs. The school has also taken efforts to provide vertical mobility by offering degree programmes. Post graduate programmes are also being planned.
Through its quality policy, computer school aims to enhance and sustain excellence of its educational programmes. The computer school has a vision to create computer literacy by taking computer education to the masses.
The School foresee to
- Develop degree, postgraduate and research level computer programmes for creating professional manpower required by the IT industries-
- Develop need based and job oriented short term computer programmes to meet the huge demand of IT skilled manpower in business, society and industries
- Ensure relevance of programmes by updating curriculum dynamically-establish linkages with educational industries to share experience and knowledge.
 Provide eLearning support to its students for better ‘Access and Success’.- Carry out research in multimedia, virtual reality, fuzzy logic, neural network etc. which will help in developing new methods, tools and techniques useful for computer education and applications-structure.
